I love the feeling of being overwhelmed by the possibilities when staring at a blank canvas.
I love the excitement and suspense that builds up around me but I feel calm and clear headed.
I love how with every swipe I’m building a little world for someone to get absorbed into.
I never thought it could be so rewarding.
What and how I paint changes depending on my mood. Sometimes I feel like challenging my brain and I’ll use a lot of structure and control.
Other times I’ll push free of all control and get lost in my thoughts and paint freely.
It’s not so much the outcome as it is the process that I love the most. It’s therapeutic.
I feel that there are endless possibilities out there and there is nothing more exciting.
I’m going to continue to make the world around me a more vibrant and happier place one painting at a time.
Each piece opens up a whole new little world of possibilities and gives me what I need to build on my technique and personal style. – Renée

My paintings are an expression of my passion for life and art. Ever since I was 8 years old,I still remember how I held a pencil and started drawing on school homework. Inspired by Klimt and Picasso’s art work, their paintings have displayed that art is larger than life. Throughout the years I have been painting on large canvas, drawing fashion sketches on plain papers. I paint anything that comes to my mind , or where my hands lead me. When I am feeling unhappy, I paint for hours and hours until I feel happy again. My art is based on representational , serenity art , expressionism , fauvism , nudity painting , still life , poetry, fashion and women.I paint trees in silhouettes, to show how beautiful and calm the sunset can be, with an extra canvas exhibition at the bottom for reflections. Also, I paint women on canvas with deep emotional impressions, in a variety of colours, with flowers in the background to show the beauty of femininity . I use acrylic and oil on canvas. I love to give new techniques to my work by using textures, Chinese black ink, golden colours, beads and buttons for media art. Art is life, without art, life would be tedious –

HOME

What a wonderful word. Evocative of so many strong emotions in virtually everyone. But ultimately what is HOME? What does this little four letter word mean?

Home: is that the nation-state we belong to? even in this day and age when philosophers and statesmen suggest that nation-states are a thing of the last century to soon be dissolved; yet fighting and dying over homelands still continue in so many parts of the world.

Is it the grander concept of our HOME planet the Earth. So few of us look at it this way. Perhaps that is part of the source of so many of the problems faced buy todays generation. This false sense of anonymity and the disconnection from our collective HOME.

But what is HOME on that intimate personal level. A place to feel safe? A place to belong? A place to get your mail? The place you grew up and can always go back to? That house / place that contains all those cherished and dreaded memories? Is home where the heart is or the place where you can let your guard down and be vulnerable to allow the softer parts of your heart show? Is it a place in time or space? Most likely both, and neither as home is where you are making your new memories that will you carry with you to your future as today becomes tomorrows past.

As I have journeyed throughout the derelicts and decrepit homes of yesteryear that are now inhabited by new residents I have seen that these shells even in their hard barren intensity and dilapidation still afford a measure of safety and comfort. Still providing a HOME to some. It would be absolutely crass to let you peer into their world/lives. As careful and respectful as I was at times I felt like an intruder capturing these images. Yet in this juxtaposition of familiar in the absolute unfamiliar causes me to ask these questions. What is home? Is it a roof?, or so much more? And if so what?

Spontaneity plays a powerful role in my work. I am interested in the experimental process. I craft my art using acrylic paints, oil stick, and Indian ink while incorporating fragmentation into all pieces. I’m interested in abstract expressionist work, the experimental process and enjoy blurring the boundary between the illusion of what
is real and what has been created. I want the viewer to take notice of the fragments of objects and spaces combined to create an alternate space. Blurring the boundary between what is real and what has been created – I want the unnoticed to become visible.
This allows the viewer to become a part of the artwork and engage all of their senses trying to distinguish between reality and fiction. Every crevice and crack in the wall has significance and I want the viewer to leave noticing their heightened awareness to their own surroundings and everyday objects.

Through these photos I hope that you are afforded a glimpse into the genuine beauty of Ghanaian people. Honesty, faith and love are what dictate their lifestyles. We may not envy their limited resources, but I will forever remain envious of their incredible ability to love others with such ease.

At Worsca orphanage, kids raised kids. Some days there was breakfast, and other days there wasn’t. There were good days and there were hard days. Although they were children, their youth was often compromised as they were forced to carry the weight of 78 brothers and sisters on their shoulders everyday.

They may not have much, but in the village of Dodowa, they seemed to have achieved something that we struggle with everyday in North America: true happiness.
